This App is a bird identification, monitoring and management tool for common bird species found within cotton landscapes in NSW & QLD.

The birds in this guide have been listed Alphabetically by their recommended common name (as used by Birdlife Australia and most field guides). Each bird has a photo, bird call and a description of its appearance, behaviour and habitat.

The birds may be searched by their primary habitat or specialist behavior (see habitat icons) and by their general size (see size icons). Also included in the guide is a list of Indicator species (useful birds for indicating biodiversity health at a farm and landscape scale).

Over 300 native bird species have been recorded in cotton growing areas of New South Wales and Queensland. This represents more than one-third of all Australian birds. A complete list of species known to occur in cotton regions appears in the “Checklist” section.

Included in this guide are 8 key principles for bird habitat management. These principles list management options and actions you can implement in a productive agricultural landscape to help maintain or enhance bird diversity.

A great feature of this App is the “sightings” tool which allows users to build their own bird lists overtime.

By developing knowledge of the birds that inhabit your landscape, and observing what birds live where, and when they come and go, you will build an understanding of the habitat requirements of those birds. Such understanding will be invaluable in helping you to plan and manage land use change over coming years. Perhaps of even greater significance is the mere pleasure you will derive from being able to recognise and name more of the birds you see every day.
